Good (but long) Day

Labor Day at the Lake was awesome! If there's one thing Capstoners know how to do --- it's eat and fellowship. The day began overcast with a very slight chill in the air. I wondered if the "rainy" look of the morning would keep people away but it didn't. We had a huge crowd with kids and food everywhere. (And unfortunately, the fire ants were really bad with one person having a major reaction that required a trip to the doc's office.)

Even with the ants, it's always awesome to have church outside. I love sitting in creation talking about how amazing God is. There's just something cool about it. A few minutes after I read in Psalm 103 about us soaring like eagles, an eagle flew overhead. It was great!

Then I got to baptize five folks in the lake. The sun came out as we were walking to the water. Again, really good timing. Baptism is always special but there's something extra special about having it in the lake. The view standing in the water looking at everyone on the shore must have been what Jesus and His disciples saw (without digital cameras, of course!).

Hats off to David Barfield and crew for organizing a great day. The games, food, and general set-up were top notch and it paid off. Thanks for all the hard work.

I had to leave to go take part in a funeral in the afternoon. I could write volumes about the experience but just let me say this: A woman minister was also on the program and she got so excited and so worked up that she literally started falling off the front of the narrow stage and caught herself on the casket. It moved. Everybody in the room gasped. I jumped up to grab her before she went sprawling on the casket. We pulled her up and got her steadied and she kept right on going --- didn't miss a beat. One for the memoirs, no doubt.

Hope you have a great Labor Day. Get some rest. I sure hope too.
